We went out to the house site again over the weekend and finished up clearing for the house. Scott’s Brother-in-Law, Mark, helped on Saturday, and his friend Steve helped on Sunday. We took the kids with us and they did very well. For a few hours they had fun helping us clear the brush, then they decided it was much more fun to play with their toys in the back of the Jeep.
We closed on the construction loan yesterday, so now we are only waiting on the permits to be approved and we can start digging the basement!!
Scott, his Dad, his Brother-in-Law, two friends, and I went out to the house site on Sunday and started cutting up the trees. It was a very cold day, wearing multiple layers and keeping busy was key, I had enough on that the cold did not really bother me. I was only able to stay for about 4 hours, but the guys worked from about 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Together we were able to cut up and move about 16 trees, and we have about 8 to go. Guess what I am doing again this weekend. :-)
Last week I made chili and we roasted hotdogs on the fire we made from the brush pile. I have no idea what I’ll make this week, any suggestions?
Yesterday was Scott and my 10th Wedding Anniversary. When I arrived home from work, I was greeted by a suitcase with a note saying “Pack Me”. Scott had made reservations for an evening at Embassy Suites downtown on the landing. It was wonderful having a stress free evening with no kids. After 10 years he is still able to surprise me.
BTW: the house is going to be a Farmhouse style house with yellow siding and white trim. It will have a big front porch so that we can better utilize the little bit of flat space available in the front yard. Here is the front elevation.

The trees have been pushed down! We are going out on Sunday to cut them up into fire wood. Scott says we have about 2 dozen trees to cut up. He has several people lined up to help us, so hopefully it will go smoothly.
Scott is going to meet with the excavator and the builder on Thursday morning to discuss what trees to knock over, and then the excavator will start to work. Wow! Real progress!
It has just occured to me that I have never posted a picture of our land. Here is a picture of where our house will sit. I took it from about 50 feet away from the home site. It looks like a bunch of trees now, but it is going to be great!
HOUSE NEWS:
We have all of our paperwork filed with Jefferson County and the bank. It should all be processed by February 20th. When that is done we can start working on our house! We can already start knocking down the trees on the home site and that should happen soon! Scott and I met with the builder, the foundation man, and representatives from Stitt (our design firm) last night, it was over a 3 hour meeting and we spent most of it talking about the foundation. It is amazing how much goes in to the foundation, but you have to get that part right or the house will have problems for years.
Wish us luck it looks like the fun is about to start.
P.S. Stitt won the peoples choice award!
